Cleveland State University

Fall & Summer, 2010

Concept and design of a poster for the Cleveland International Film Festival
The students were challenged to develop a theme and then come up with poster design concepts to further compliment the chosen theme. The students are always hesitant to write copy, so I always enjoy this part of the project. It teaches them that they can problem solve with words as well as with images and the combination of both is usually very successful.

Fall 2011

Design marketing materials for the Cleveland International Film Festival
Using their poster designs from the first part of the project, the students were asked to create marketing materials for the film festival in order to advertise and gain public awareness. They were challenged to create 3 external marketing elements such as bus signs, billboards and newspaper ads, as well as 3 merchandise items such as t-shirts, hats and pins. Lisa even created a mock-up of a kaleidoscope, which fit with her concept and made for a very interesting and successful merchandise item.

48-hour Infographic Poster
The students were asked to record everything they did within a 48-hour period, analyze and find commonalities within their data, and then record their data as easy-to-read and understand infographics using a poster format. They were challenged to design their data in a way that was clear and concise, and to find a way to combine their data into a theme in order to further organize the information on their posters.
