The University of Akron Myers School of Art

Summer 2010

Using wood type and linoleum block cuts, create a poster that will be printed on the Vandercook proofing press.
The goal of this class was for the students to gain an understanding of setting type and working with the constraints of the proofing press. Rachael wasn’t satisfied with using the wood type for her poster, so I challenged her to hand-draw her letters and carve them onto a linoleum block. She liked it so much she printed her design onto a tote bag as well.

Nicole used all woodblock type to create her posters, and experimented with layering colors to get a unique look.
