Stitch Magazine

Client: Stitch Magazine/Interweave Press
Description: Cover design for a seasonal sewing magazine. Stitch is distributed on newsstands nationally at retailers such as Borders and JoAnn Fabrics.
Role: Designer
Impact: Flipping through the first issue of Stitch, I realized that I knew the editor so I asked if she needed any freelance help. She asked me to design and layout issue #2. I am an avid sewer, and was thrilled to have been offered the job.

Two feature openers from the Spring 2009 issue of Stitch Magazine. I enjoyed utilizing the textures and patterns from the different photographs in my layouts.

HOW Magazine

Client: HOW Magazine / F&W Media
Description: May/June 1999 Creativity issue. Listed as one of the editorial staffs’ top 25 covers in the HOW Magazine 25th Anniversary issue.
Role: Art Director
Every issue was a challenge to come up with a cover design that was both creative as well as visually appealing on the newsstand.

Description: Feature spreads from the November/December 2010 issue
Role: Contributing Art Director
Impact: I have maintained a great relationship with the HOW staff and they send me freelance work from time to time. I always enjoy working on the magazine and still get a thrill seeing my layouts in the issue.

Impact: This was a fun feature to work on because I was able to use some retro-inspired patterns and I absolutely love Lomo photography.

Dole Microsite

Client: Dole
Description: Design a microsite where consumers can learn about the new Dole salad kits and play a game to win a coupon for a free salad kit of their choice. Utilizing the Dole brand look and feel, I designed the site in Photoshop and worked with a programmer to bring it to life online.

Description: Create a variety of theme graphics to promote the sale of greeting cards for Valentine’s Day 2008.

Stouffers Demo Booklet

Client: Nestlé Prepared Foods / Wal-Mart
Description: Design a 12-page booklet that was handed out to shoppers at Wal-Mart when they had STOUFFER’S® demo day events. The booklet contains information about STOUFFER’S® frozen meals as well as a meal planning calendar in the center spread.
Role: Creative Lead/Art Director
Impact: It was important to follow the STOUFFER’S® brand look and feel while still designing a piece that was unique enough for the consumer to want to keep on hand.

Diabetes Booklet

Client: Ross / Wal-Mart
Description: Design a 64-page booklet that was handed out to shoppers who attended the Wal-Mart Diabetes Demo Day. The book is filled with helpful information and advertisements paid for by sponsors of the event.
Role: Art Director
Impact: This program ran in Wal-Mart stores across the United States and included sponsoring companies such as Gerber, Dole, Kraft and Tropicana.

Nestlé® Good Start Sales Kit

Client: Nestlé® Nutrition / Good Start
Description: Design a sales kit for the sales force to take into retail stores to promote a new NESTLÉ® Good Start formula. The kit includes samples of in-store signage such as tear pads, shelf blades and circular ads.
Role: Creative Lead / Art Director
Impact: This project was especially challenging because there was no brand look established for this new product. We were able to take the lead and come up with both the look and execution of the in-store materials which was then used for national trade ads and other tactics both in- and out-of-store.

Good Start Sales Kit

Garden Greetings Magazines

Client: Garden Club of Ohio, Inc.
Description: Re-design Garden Greetings, the seasonal publication for the Garden Club of Ohio.
Role: Freelance Designer
Impact: The earlier issues were previously designed in one-color and xeroxed. The client was thrilled when they saw the first issue in full color which really helped bring the publication to life.

Goodyear Garden Hose Label

Client: Goodyear Tire Company
Description: Create a label for a new line of garden hose that were sold in large hardware stores such as Lowes and Home Depot nationwide. The client requested that the Goodyear blimp be an integral part of the label, but also wanted to see some more creative options as well.

Deerpark Water Sweepstakes

Client: Nestle Waters / Publix
Description: Design several promotional elements including an end-cap header with tear pad, email splash page and newspaper insert (not shown) to sell in a sweepstakes promotion for NESTLÉ® Waters at Publix stores.
Role: Creative Lead / Art Director
Impact: Malone Advertising became the agency of record for NESTLÉ® Waters’ national brands due to this program.
